Just finished Chernobyl last night and, if you haven’t watched already, I highly recommend. Crazy to watch it all knowing that this may have been dramatized and altered to shape into a coherent story, but in the end, it all still happened. Half of Europe was nearly made uninhabitable because of institutionalized deception and a corrupt empire’s incorrigible strength complex.
After finishing this show, which covers events happening in 1987, I looked through some of my Ukraine pictures. Not much looks all that different. The clothes don’t look different because nearly everyone, besides the very lucky, cannot afford to buy new clothes. The cars don’t look different because if they can’t afford new clothes, how the hell are they going to afford a new car. The Soviet Union may have fallen, but that doesn’t mean freedom suddenly rewarded them with a functioning economy.
