This card defines the chronotope of Game of Thrones Tarot. It’s a fancy word, but sometimes quite useful. It means the time-Space of a work of fiction. Chronos = time, topos = place.
Where do the events occur?
We se the map of Westeros. (Not Westeros, but a map, perhaps a clue)
And the sigils of four great houses.
And bands like those from the “astrolabe”
The bands show important events from the history of Westeros. They put the Chrono in chronotope :-) (Fun fact- I tried to enlarge them digitally in order to be able to make out exactly what they depict— still couldn’t see everything)
But the point is that THIS is the world of this deck. Everything a card is about us within the boundaries of this card.
You know, like the map in the first pages of all fantasy books 📖 indicating where all you read about will take place. (And making it easy to say what corresponds to 🇬🇧, the continent and the eastern block ... or the steppes of Asia as the case may be) (Btw did you notice how the dialects of the actors are more southern and northern depending on where in Westeros they’re from :-) )
And Everything you take a card to say about you or a situation is a transposition of the world of Westeros onto your own world.
It’s metaphorical, analogical, abductive thinking.
But that’s ok.
Because you ARE Daenerys Stormborn.
You ARE Bran.
You ARE Brienne.
You ARE Arya.
You ARE each an every one of your favourite characters:-)
Traditionally the world tend to be the cosmos to the chaos of the Fool. The stable end result. The fulfilment. — I hope that after season 8 Westeros will still be the domain of the living!
While this is not the map seen in that scene, there’s one scene I associate this map with.
It’s when Cersei has become queen and walks around in her map room :-)
