White Night. This picture was taken around 23:00 (11pm). A random street shot of the sunset in St. Petersburg. Ever wanted to experience nearly 24 hours of a daylight? Then St. Petersburg is the place to be. The party never stops!
Prior to this photo, I had a mission. That mission was to have authentic Mexican tacos in Russia. I had an insatiable craving for tacos that caused me to go through great lengths to try an acquire. I had been anticipating my visit to St. Petersburg because there was one authentic street style Mexican restaurant called Taqueria Don Garcia. Don Garcia was locates about 8km (~5mi) away from where I was. While that doesn’t seem so bad, I didn’t have a car, I’ve yet to grow courage to casually ride buses in foreign countries, Uber was pricey, and so my only option was the metro. The ride itself after switching trains and all that was about 30 minutes, but remember that the Russian metro system is deep...very deep! So always remember to account for that if you need to be somewhere on time.
When I finally made it to Don Garcia’s I was surprised to see Mexico fans hanging out in front. This really shouldn’t have been a surprise, to be honest. This made the restaurant rather easy to find. However, something was odd, they were outside. It turns out that my whole trip was for nothing. We somehow managed to ask a stranger to call the owner and ask why the restaurant was closed. Apparently, due to construction the entire block had lost power around noon and wouldn’t be back until the following day. Devastating.
All that time spent finding these tacos for nothing. Well, the story does have a happy ending. I went into the city center, found a Mexican restaurant, and had a nice fajita plate and made my own tacos!
