Wanted to see what this whole "alternative toothpaste" is all about. Here are some quick thoughts. 😁
☆Lush Toothy Tabs☆
Pros: Lots of different flavors, can pick it up in store or ship online, easily portable, shiny, organic and/or fairtrade ingredients
Cons: Plastic packaging (even if it is 100% recycled plastic), doesnt seem to freshen my breath/give me a 'just brushed feeling' for an extended period of time, some flavors contains dyes
Pros: minimal ingredients (seriously, like 6 in total) small size, teeth feel clean when I brush, no plastic (not even in my shipping packaging). Ships to you with subscription option for automatic refills which come in cardboard for your reusable glass bottle.
Cons: glass broke during shipping first time around (but customer service was super helpful and sent me a replacement right away), need to wait for shipping as they are frequently back ordered.
Overall both are around the same price point and both seem to clean my teeth pretty well. (Although I haven't asked my dentist how clean and healthy my teeth really are since switching.) Both create a good 'lather/foam' and are easy to use. Ultimately, I find actually prefer these to tube toothpaste and I feel like they encourage me to brush more. I don't feel overwhelmed by minty flavor (or I have the option for a citrus flavor), it's just the right amount of breath freshening minty goodness. Maybe it's just a weird mental thing and it's just me, but that's how I feel! 😅
I think it comes down to why you want choose an alternative to buying toothpaste in a tube. If it is to reduce plastic waste, I feel like buying the Lush tabs in a plastic bottle defeats the purpose and I commend Bites for their commitment to zero plastic. 👏
