Everything I prayed and worked so hard for all last year is finally happening. Tommorow, I’ll be starting nursing school. . . .
How are y’all preparing for the upcoming semester?
My instructors finally released our syllabi 🙌🏾. To stay organized I put all of my exams/quizzes into my planner as well as weekly readings. I’ve gone over and took notes for the first 5 chapters which cover the nursing process, “ADPIE”, and I’m currently working on some ATI modules that’ll be due soon.
I remember the first time I went to college I didn’t even have a pencil or a piece of paper on the first day of class. I even forgot my glasses. So not only could I not take notes, I couldn’t even see them 🤦🏾♀️. It was all bad and I just walked out after the first 30min. I did this a couple more times with a couple more classes before dropping out completely. Coincidence? I think not.
This is why preparation is 🔑. Not only will you feel more confident, but it’ll show in your work. So, here are a few ways to stay prepared.
1️⃣ Pre-read before lecture so that once in class it’ll stick, and you’ll already have questions lined up for topics you didn’t understand.
2️⃣ Print the lecture powerpoints! This saved me so much during prerequisites. Some lectures are 100+ slides long, and my hand would be cramping by slide 15 😩. Printing the PowerPoint in outline form will help you be able to actively listen to the professor and not be distracted by writing. Also you can always add extra tidbits on the side.
3️⃣ Pack your bag the night before so you don’t forget anything. Make sure your pens have ink, you got paper, assignments, books... whatever will be needed for the next days class.
4️⃣ Pack your snacks 🤗. Again, lectures can and will be long. Have your gum, coffee, chips, fruit or whatever will keep you focused and active. It’s awful trying to pay attention while your stomach is talking to your back 😖
5️⃣ Get a good nights rest. Studies show we’re more effective after a good night
