SYSTEMS AND STRUCTURES in our quadrant began to complexify around the time Assyrians, Egyptians, Babylonians, were around. And it's just kept on complexifing till today.
Assyrian king Ashurbanipal was the first to create a very large library. He ruled an empire that required structures larger and more complex than before. The exhibition I am Ashurbanipal will be on at the British Museum till February 24th. If you're around, you should definitely see it!
The show displays numerous hunting scenes, where the king (and his team) kill numerous lions, proving his strengh and power. How these scenes still ring true today is deeply saddening, though. We're still killing the wild, leaving no room for it, outside and inside of us, even though we have grown to billions.
Looking at those beautiful bas-reliefs makes me wonder what kind of relationship we could create with the rest of the species, plants or animals, that would be respectful and create a win-win situation. How could large human structures coexist with plants and animals? I hope to witness this emergence during my life-time. . . .
