🌲 Collecting pine roots for cordage! Swipe right for a tutorial! 🌲 (Generally you hear of spruce roots, but I only had pine trees around). Find a tree of fairly small diameter I used 5-10in trees), too big and the roots will be too large (so I believe). Then dig around the base about a foot from the trunk and quickly you will find a root or two (if not just move on to a new tree). Then simply follow the root carefully moving the soil from around it and weaving it in and out of other roots. (Then fill back in the soil). Next a found a roughly snapped branch (I had no knife, otherwise you can carve a V notch), then pull the root through to strip the outer layer. Next, I used my finger nail to start a split and then slowly carried it on, if one side gets too thin, carefully pull on the thicker side, going carefully at knots. Then voila, without writing an essay, you should have some cordage! (If you need thicker cordage simply leave the roots intact).
