I have been wanting to take a leather making class in Chiang Mai, but cannot bring myself to do it. Because it is an animal’s skin that I am stitching up with my bare hands. I want to share something I wrote a few months back. I hope it makes you pause and think.
Imagine a world where the role of humans and nature was reversed. Imagine nature’s intelligence surpassing mankind. Trees can walk around, animals have corporate jobs, and humans are the primary livestock that are bred, harvested and processed in every way possible to use up every part of the human body. Imagine a reality where we became the inferior race and all other living organisms realigned themselves on the food chain. In this world, our bodies are chopped up, skinned, boiled, stretched, grinded, manipulated and manufactured for the sole purpose of consumption by mother nature and her animals. There are competitions where we are chased, tortured and slaughtered for the pure entertainment of the animal kingdom. Our meat is made into human jerky, our bones are grinded into human jelly powder, our fibers are made into human bed sheets, and our skin is pierced and stitched together for human apparel, to name a few. This is what we have been doing to nature and animals for centuries. Imagine what they would do to us knowing the terrible things we have done to them.
This beautiful planet has become a slave to the ambitious dreams and plans of mankind. But we cannot continue living this way. We have to start making it a priority to protect and nurture this planet and all its organisms so that it can continue sustaining life. •♾• Continued👇🏼✍🏼
