Toy Story 2 #review #sequel #pixar #toystorytrilogy
A lot of you probably already know this, but Toy Story 2 is my favourite Pixar movie. Why, because it takes everything that makes the original a masterpiece and amplifies it. The story is better, the characters are better, the comedy is better and the drama is better. I could watch this millions of times and never get bored of it.
Whilst Toy Story 1 had a great story showing Woody and Buzz learning what it means to be a toy and becoming friends, this selves into deeper more meaningful themes, and that’s whether Woody can still be loved by Andy. This was the first time we expire the concept of Andy growing up and Woody being inevitably forgotten. And we see him face a very well executed moral dilemma, where he must choose to stay with Andy and eventually be forgotten or live with the movie’s new characters, his roundup gang, to cherished forever. And the roundup gang themselves are all great characters; I love Jesse, who’s a blast of energy but also has a great backstory that gives us the movie’s biggest emotional moment.
But along with that, you have an awesome subplot, where Buzz and the gang go on a mission to save Woody, and it is one of the most entertaining and fun sub plots ever. And from the second that plot begins all the way to the climax, the movie’s energy never slows (only when it should do when focusing on Woody and his dilemma). And we get another Buzz, who goes through the same phase the original Buzz did, and he’s really funny. And the soundtrack is as strong as ever - not just the great, emotional song for Jesse’s backstory, but also the fast paced score for the action sequences.
Toy Story 2 is still to this day my favourite Pixar movie and the best of the Toy Story trilogy. In every way a superior sequel!!!
