Joy comes in the simplest things. I’m learning that I don’t need to fill the void with stuff. When stressed, I tend to buy stuff! Food, cookbooks, treats for my family, clothing, essential oils, crystals, kitchen gadgets, yoga pants, and an endless array of facial oils. You name it!
The list goes on and on. I’ve come to realize the power of these things to make me feel better is short-lived at best.
When I was about 13, my Mom received an inheritance from a distant cousin. The first thing we did was head to Safeway. She let me have my own cart, and told me to put whatever I wanted in it. Pop-tarts, Stouffers, sugar cereals. Anything and everything!
Before that, I never really felt like I was missing out. But suddenly, we seemed to be living the life. It brought me some comfort to have a full fridge and pantry. It still does weirdly.
What I understand now though, is that nothing but love, and self-care will fill that space.
Except maybe avocados 🥑💜✨🧘🏾♂️
