I wrapped a 14 hour mediation this week for the future of my son. The process could have been better. The terms are not perfect. But it’s “good enough.”⚖️ I’ve been in tight corners before. I’ve gotten lost in being right, I’ve been flooded with adrenaline, and I’m guilty of obsessing over perfection when defending matters close to my heart.
Now that I’ve done these things in multiple scenarios, over multiple years, I’ve learned one thing: Perfection is enemy of the good.💎 It’s not a good deal if one party leaves mediation more satisfied than the other. Should that be the case, then there was not enough compromise, and the likelihood of both parties returning to the legal process is higher.
So, while the process could have been better, I could have fought harder, the outcome is “good enough.” 🎋“Better a diamond with a flaw than a pebble without.” — Confucius🎋 #GoodEnough
