So now that you are tracking your food and your workouts, it’s time to enable the negative calorie adjustment feature to give you the most accurate information about your calorie expenditure for the day. A negative calorie adjustment indicates that you are using fewer calories on a given day than the My Fitness Pal originally estimated. So, for example, even though we may burn 500 calories during our workout, My Fitness Pal may make a negative calorie adjustment to only include 300 calories into our daily caloric allowance for the day. It sucks, but it will give you a more accurate reading for what your caloric intake for the day should be. The option for allowing negative calorie adjustments can be found by logging in to your account at www.myfitnesspal.com, then clicking "My Home" then "Settings" then "Diary settings". 🥇Day 1 of macro munching🥇⁣ ⁣ My plan is to do intermittent fasting, so I can only eat between 10-6pm. I thought this would be easy as it's the main hours I eat anyway, but I was starving before my lunch at 1, and still full for my meal at 4. My staff canteen has a half chicken on the menu this week and it's huge (see photo!). It was harder than I expected eating the amount of protein I did, and considering I was aiming for 20% but finished on 33%, I think I did pretty well! Going to cram three days of updates into one post! I’m at a conference for work in Vegas and staying on top of healthy eating has been tough - but I’ve been doing my best to track MOST of my meals (I tend to fall off the wagon at dinner 😬). I also got to the gym this morning before the conference started, so felt like I started today on the right foot! 💪🏻🏃🏼‍♀️ . Often, I find that my clients struggle with healthy eating because they get stuck in the mindset that there won’t be “more” after that moment. . But if you reflect on your past experiences, I’m sure you’ll find that your jar of peanut butter stayed in the pantry, the chips were still offered at the next restaurant, and it’s always someone’s birthday and Karen keeps bringing in cake. Oh, Karen.. . So when the urge to keep eating arises even though you’re full..or the urge to eat Karen’s cake arises even though you don’t feel comfortable eating it..remember there will ALWAYS be more. . And this too..you can always take leftovers home, order something to-go, go back to that restaurant tomorrow, and buy another jar of peanut butter. It doesn’t all have to be eaten today, right here, right now. . Know your sweeteners! 😋 . I wanted to give you the lowdown on the different types of sweeteners you can use! There are so many alternatives to table sugar that taste great & make for a more nutritious treat ✨ . Coconut sugar- is made from the dehydrated fluid inside of coconut palms. 🥥 Compared to table sugar that has no vital nutrients, coconut sugar is packed w/ antioxidants, polyphenols, & minerals like iron, zinc, and potassium. Coconut sugar also contains a fiber called inulin which may slow the absorption of glucose & explains why the glycemic index is 54, rather than table sugar’s GI of 60. . Dates- are awesome because they are sweet like sugar but full of fiber, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants like flavonoids, carotenoids, & phenolic acid. They are easy to add into recipes & have a GI of 44. . Honey- High quality honey is full of important antioxidants including phenolic compounds like flavonoids. Because it is so sweet, you don’t have to use a lot of it which is an added bonus. While it doesn’t have fiber or protein, it’s still a great alternative to table sugar. 🍯 Make sure to go for a raw honey though! . Monk Fruit-is a green melon native to southern China that got it’s name from the monks who cultivated it. The extract is similar to Stevia in that it has 0 calories & carbs, & does not raise blood glucose levels. It is 150-250 times sweeter than table sugar, and has mogrosides that are said to be anti-inflammatory. . Maple Syrup- Real maple syrup (not maple flavored syrup that can be loaded w/ refined sugar) has a GI of 54. While it can be high in sugar, it has minerals like manganese and zinc and one study even found 24 different antioxidants in it! This would be a great choice if you like the taste of maple & want to add that flavor to your treat. 🍁 . Stevia- has 0 calories & is much sweeter than table sugar which means you don’t need as much. One study even found that switching from refined sugar to stevia significantly lowered insulin & glucose levels in participants; just be cautious to avoid stevia products that are highly processed. . While all sweeteners should be consumed in moderation, these are some more nutritious choices ❤️

Performance vs aesthetics gets lost a lot of the time - especially in the CrossFit space. The common thought has been to aim for performance and aesthetics will follow. ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Proper aesthetics relative to your performance will follow if you eat for performance - the problem is, ultimately what that leaves you at is what we would call set point and your body will naturally gravitate towards its proper set point and homeostatic balance when you’re fueling and recovering appropriately for performance. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ Unfortunately 90% of people out there are going to look in the mirror and not see the look of 'insert CrossFit games athlete's name' - who has a genetically low set point. He or she is likely very lean naturally. Which is great for that games athlete maybe. But for every person who thinks they are going to chase performance and look like them - they’re sadly mistaken.⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ Can you periodize aesthetics at certain points in the year and performance in others? Breaking down this whole “Macros” thing. So what are macros and why are they important?? 🤷🏼‍♀️ Basically, macros stands for “macronutrients”, which is our protein, carbs & fats that make up our daily calorie intake. Each macronutrient plays an important role in our health and ALL 3 are necessary in our diet! Here’s a few reasons why 👇🏼 • Carbs 🍞 🍌🥔🍚🍎🌽 Carbohydrates are our body’s preferred fuel source. They are broken down into the body and are converted to glucose, which is used to give us energy! Our brain, kidney’s, heart, and muscles need carbs to function properly. Fats can only be metabolized when carbs are present in the diet. • Protein 🍗🥩🐟 Proteins (or amino acids) are used as the building block of the body. Protein helps build and repair our body tissue. BBQ Pulled Pork I don't do anything special with this, but to give you an idea for dinner and it comes together super quick. So it's good for a fast meal or meal prep. Throw a pot roast in the crockpot before you leave for work cook on low all day. Shred when you get home. BAM! That easy! I use @stubbsbbqsauce because it's got clean ingredients and it's delicious. I did a low Carb version because I had a Swiss roll to take up the rest of my carbs. #balance #magicofmacros 😂 so coleslaw salad mix under the pork topped with BBQ sauce and jalapeno ranch, with a side of asparagus. I look at that Mama on the left who was exhausted, stressed, overwhelmed, and defeated. But she didn’t give up on herself and she made up her my mind to make the changes she needed to make, and she decided to dig deep and figure it all out, so she could get her life back. There was a lot going on with that Mama, but to see her now….I just can’t help but be so incredibly proud of her. I don’t remember the last time I was this excited about a new year, I remember thinking 3 months ago how amazing it would be if I could start 2019 strong and healthy and not struggling like I had been for most of 2018. And here I am! And it just feels SO GOOD!! To be heading into the new year with a plan I know will work and will also allow me the freedom to live my life and enjoy the things I love, well that is just everything! I have truly found balance and a lifestyle that is sustainable and that is the best new year’s gift I could ever give myself.
