We had the thrill of giving a LIGHT CHASERS workshop on light painting at the Photo360 Conference at San Diego City College. 200 lucky high school students from San Diego County were chosen to have an immersive experience with the Photography Department to learn the craft, including darkroom techniques, portraiture, macro photography, portfolio development, and light painting.
A huge thanks to our Light Chasers team for working together to make the workshop a great experience for the students. In very short order, we developed the workshop outline, assembled toolkits, created a tips sheet, and figured out our lighting routines, among many other technical and logistical issues.
It was totally exhausting, yet a blast to teach the students and see them light up with excitement. In one session, after the students worked though a shot and saw it on the screen, they exclaimed, “Whoa . . . magical!” These “A-ha” moments show them their potential when they learn their craft and use their creativity. These moments made the intense effort worthwhile.
Thank you, @amethel_lightchaser, @misawa9, @stephenbayphoto, @asaro.nation, @eileenmandellphotography, @hnicolet, and @lifeofka1! Thanks to Tony Amat from Nelson Photo and the staff at SDCC for inviting us to take part in Photo360.
