Do you use CBD?
Cannabinol aka CBD, a non psychoactive cannabinoid from the cannabis plant known for its health benefits has had a lot of attention in the UK over the past couple of years.
With a stream of CBD cafés, bars, restaurants and even CBD hotels opening (and sadly closing 😢), CBD floods the shelves of pharmacies, health food shops, dispensaries, pet stores and yoga studios to name a few.
You can bathe in it, rub it on your skin, drink it, eat it, give it to your pet.
If you are going to try any of this, the most important thing is make sure it’s ORGANIC. Cannabis phytoremediates the soil, ie it absorbs all the bad stuff such as heavy metals and pesticides. This may be useful for cleaning up nuclear waste and making hemp fibre, but it’s not good for our bodies. Plus it’s better for the bees to go organic! 🐝
When it comes to CBD extract it can be confusing knowing where to begin and how to find the right product.
My advice is to find a local trusted dispensary where you can get advice from an expert to find the right oil at the right percentage for your specific needs.
You can choose an aqua or oil based CBD. I would recommend an aqua base if you are using in water based cooking or drinks so for mocktails, cocktails, sorbets, but watch out-it can enhance bitterness!
CBD is better absorbed and more bioavailable if taken with fats so most CBD extract is suspended in MCT coconut or hemp oil.
I use an oil based CBD for daily drops under the tongue and incorporating into cooking that have fat bases such as pestos and CBD chocolate bliss balls.
Don’t forget about the other cannabinoids. I prefer full spectrum as cannabinoids work together in an entourage effect. There are lots of other legal cannabinoids that you can buy with CBD over the counter. All will have less than 0.2% THC, the psychoactive part of cannabis. THC, aka delta-9 tetrahydrocannabiniol, is a marvellous cannabinoid with incredible potential that really deserve to be better understood. But I will save that for another post... Any really it would be better if we could grow our own hemp -one day maybe!
