Things to know before visiting Colombia 🇨🇴:
✨ Despite what you might see in the news, traveling around Colombia is generally safe. But, as with any other city, be aware of your surroundings and secure your belongings.
✨ If you hold a US, Canadian, Australian, EU passport, you won’t need a visa to enter. Also for Canadians, the government website says you need to pay a $95 entry fee to enter Colombia but I paid no such fee.
✨ The weather is really diverse in Colombia, so pack a variety of clothing and check the weather forecast! So far I’ve experienced rain, extreme heat, cold, fog and everything in between!
✨ Uber is available in Colombia and it’s super cheap! I paid $3 for 30 minute ride!
✨ The most convenient way to get around the country is by bus! They run frequently, are affordable and comfortable.
✨ Get a SIM card from Claro to get mobile data, it’s so much better than trying to connect to WiFi. I paid 20,000 Colombian pesos (about $6 USD) for 2GB of data.
✨ You don’t need to speak Spanish but it certainly helps! People are very friendly and willing to help you out, even if you don’t speak Spanish. Download the offline translation from Google Translate (this is a lifesaver for me!)
✨ Don’t be afraid to try the local cuisine! Colombia food is really yummy and there are surprisingly lots of vegetarian options available!
