Squeeze the dumbbells as tight as possible to improve a phenomenon known as “irradiation” which promotes greater shoulder stability. . Keep your shoulder blades pinched together to ensure the shoulders remain in a safe position. . Think of the movement as a fly combined with a press. Press together while pressing horizontally. . If you’re feeling pain within the shoulder joint itself (specifically at the front), ensure your shoulder blades are slightly retracted and try to keep the shoulder girdle “packed”. . Ensure you maintain some tension in your abs and don’t allow your lower back to excessive arch. . i hope everybody’s week is off to a great start! Hiiiii guys 👋🏼 Happy Monday! Here’s a few tips on how to beat being intimidated in the gym 💕⁣ ⁣ The gym can be intimidating for anyone! When I was first starting out I was definitely intimidated by people in the gym 😅⁣ ⁣ You shouldn’t let intimidation atop you though because whose to say that you don’t belong there! You have the right to workout just like everyone else 🙌🏼⁣ ⁣ So these are a few things to help you get over your gym intimidation:⁣ ⁣ 🔸 Remind yourself: ⁣ * You should be there just as much as the person next to you - don’t let people tell you or make you feel like you shouldn’t be there!⁣ * Everyone starts somewhere - EVERYONE in that gym started where you’re starting now⁣ ⁣ 🔸 Don’t worry about the weight you’re using- it’s more important to correct your form than to lift heavy⁣ ⁣ 🔸 Wear something that you’re comfortable in- you don’t have to be fancy and you don’t have to wear sweatpants if you don’t want to! Wear what YOU want🤩⁣ ⁣ 🔸 If someone is looking at you and making you feel uncomfortable just remember that the person doing that is probably insecure and has nothing better to do- don’t let it both you⁣ ⁣ 🔸 Write down that you’re doing in the gym so you have a plan when you get there and you don’t have to look at your phone for 10 mins. Sometimes it’s hard to talk about mental health because of stigma and we just don’t know what to say or how to say it. Discussing someone’s mental illness is a sensitive issue and because of stigma, the right vocabulary to do so is not often known. Here are some tips on how to address mental illness. . 1. Listen always. Often, people just want someone to pour their thoughts out to. Wait for verbal cues to start offering advice or to respond. Letting someone vent to you can be one of the most helpful things, especially with anxiety. 2. Avoid dismissive comments like “it’ll pass” or “snap out of it” which are directly related to a lack of understanding of one’s mental illness. These phrases can make the person shut down and less likely to open up to you again.  3. Discuss suicide or self-harm if it comes up in the conversation.
