We need to band together to be ready. As soon as the #shutdown ends, the @NationalParkService will need both financial resources and volunteers to help repair the damages our national treasures are experiencing. . I used to try and pick up “art” as I traveled, or at least something I could hang on my wall. I got out of the habit because, not only was I not actually hanging things up, it also felt like I was just gathering things for the sake of having things. Now, as I prioritize national parks in my travels, my potential for picking up a souvenir that’s not a T-shirt or postcard is limited (disclaimer: I definitely still buy souvenirs!). I casually kept an eye out for something to hang up while I was in Alaska, but nothing really caught my eye. - Hiking on a glacier was one of the most memorable things I did out there, so I commissioned @hollyhammondart to paint a lil something for me, and she killed it! I sent her some photos for inspiration, and the last photo is what she created. I’m so excited to have an original piece of art that’s reminiscent of my first Alaskan expedition!

Ageing means forgiving myself for all the times I apologised to people for being too sensitive, or beating myself up for feeling too much, or not conforming to societal standards by truly "fitting in". Never apologise for your vulnerabilities. They're your quirks that make you, you. Also, more than ever, it is now that this chaotic, artificial world needs people who can actually feel and speak about their pain and struggles to reach out to those suffering silently. There is nothing more agonising than having to pit your broken self against the projections of unreal perfection this world displays unendingly. . . @thelocalwandererpk . . #mtnchicks #peoplewhoadventure #amongthewild #sheadventures #peoplewhohike #ourcamplife #sheexplores #choosemountains #womenwhoexplore #findyourpark #wildernessbabes #womenwhohike #werehikers #rei1440project #mountaingirls #wanderwomeninc #kashmir #alpinebabes #nationalparks #himalayas #radgirlslife #pakistan #sweatydirtyhappy #andshesdopetoo #arizonahiking #girlswhohike #lifeelevated #outdoorwomen #girlshimalayan

Yellowstone National Park ( @yellowstonenps) boasts 4 mountain ranges and at least 70 peaks over 8,000 feet tall. At almost 11,000 feet tall, Electric Peak is the third tallest mountain in #Yellowstone. With its snow-covered face catching the day’s last sun rays, it’s a majestic sight to behold. I didn't post like crazy over Christmas or new year as that's when I take time away from social media and spend time with my family. New Years day saw us climbing peaks at the Cathedral Ranges in Victoria which is seriously my favourite time ever in the year to go out. It's like a deadzone in a western movie with not a single soul about. It was soooo quiet we felt a giant tree crash to the ground and it felt apocalyptic not kidding. The heat didn't matter as we had an entire national park to ourselves. Great start to the new year ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - #cathedralrangestatepark #cathedralranges #findyourpark #findyourself #jossjensenphotography #wildflowers #hiking #nationalpark #hike #trekking #tramping #camping #bushwalking #taggerty #buxton #hikevictoria #visitvictoria #seeaustralia #scramble #melbournetouristguide #wandervictoria #womenwhohike #visitmelbourne #nikon #nikonaustralia #wow_australia #ABCmyphoto #aussiephotos #discoveraustralia #australiagram #visitvictoria

: On January 19, we are redefining ATR from Anytime Runners to All Terrain Runners as we host our first all terrain run. - We will meet at 7 Pm at Mecca Avenue Park on the corner of Mecca Ave & Reseda Blvd in Tarzana. From there, we will run up Reseda Blvd to Caballero Canyon. We will take Caballero Canyon Trail up to Dirt Mulholland and follow it to the Top of Reseda. From the top of Reseda, we will run down Reseda Blvd back to our starting point! - 7ish miles All Terrain - Mixed Road & Trail 1,000 feet of elevation gain - Since this is an all terrain run, we encourage you to choose trail shoes over road shoes since we will be running a large portion of the route on trail, but road shoes are okay too. - We will be running on the trails at night, so you are required carry a headlamp or flashlight. This is a great opportunity to run on the trails at night if you’ve never done so, but if you don’t think you will be comfortable doing so, this may not be the run for you. - This is a self supported run so please carry enough water, electrolytes and nutrition for about 2 hours +/- of running. We will provide water and light snacks at the end of the run! - See you there and please feel free to DM us with any questions or concerns you may have!

The Mammoth Hot Springs making their way across the hillside. Springs get plugged, open up somewhere else and sediment diverts streams ... you never know where the hot water might run next. If those buffalos don‘t move the next 100years, they might fall victim too😜

The Emotional Rollercoaster hike: excitement for a sunset adventure; disappointment as unforecasted fog obliterated views the whole way up; ecstasy when the clouds cleared for this fleeting moment; gratitude for arriving at just the right time before fog rolled back in; dread at encountering a pair of eyes glowing in the dark as we descended by headlamp; relief when we finally realized it was only a deer; warm fuzzies for more incredible memories with Rainier + good company with @willrunforwhisky to share the ups and downs~

A large Florida Alligator eyes me sleepily near a trail at Everglades National Park. I watched a fascinating program tonight on PBS's American Experience called "The Swamp." It's about south Florida, the many mistakes man has made in his attempt to drain the swamp and turn it into something humanity considers more productive, and how we really mucked it up. It's a couple hours, but gives you insight into the amazing ecosystem of the Everglades. When will we ever learn that nature's balance is delicate and that when we try to improve on nature it rarely reaps rewards? -•••- . . . #animal_captures #exclusive_wildlife #tv_fauna #splendid_animals #animalelite #animalsmood #all_animals_addiction #evergladesnationalpark #alligator #reptiles #reptilesofinstagram #nb_nature_brilliance #tgif_nature #rebelsunited_nature #nature_sultans #excellent_nature #tnhusa #nature_of_our_world #picturetokeep_nature #nature_perfection #findyourpark

My 15th National Park, Canyonlands. Unfortunately, the hike to this arch is over 5 miles one way, so... By the time we arrived after the drive down from Moab, the sun was in a really awkward place. Time to do a lens flare! I like to think this inspired the JJ Abrams Star Trek... And a special thanks to both people who got and laughed at my joke. #druidarch #canyonlandsnationalpark #canyonlands #needlesdistrict #arch #druidarch #utah #nps #findyourpark #hiking #lensflare #adventure

We made it up to the mountains today. I had a little meltdown after the little meltdown, but we pulled it together and had a great outing as a whole family. The husband's time off is SO nice and we're making a great time of it. We actually made it all the way to the pass to hike Gold Creek, but once there Little just flipped out and wouldn't get out of the car. @bear.kearns was compassionate and saw the genuine fear that our little guy couldn't articulate and made the agreement to try a different time. I was a bit heartbroken because it's been wanting so badly to do this trip and got literally to the trailhead before feeling like it was just ripped out from under me. I was so excited on the drive up because I hadn't known if we'd be making it up to the mountains at all this winter and I so wanted to. I got to put on my boots, hike the road to the honey buckets, then get back in the car and head due West. Jacob was right, while the hike and snow might have been worth it, wrestling a toddler in a tantrum across ice with no sidewalk - just a one-lane icy road with cars parked all along the side - was likely not the adventure we were looking for. And there's always another time to try. And the boys agreed for a moment anyway to try again before Jacob heads back to work. In the end, we stopped by Snoqualmie Falls on the way back and had a great time and an awesome short, snow-free hike in the forest and mountains. It was beautiful and I hope we can make it out to the Cascades more often. 💙 • • • • #washingtonstate #passporttoearth #snoqualmiefalls #cascadiaexplored #cascades #optoutside #whyihike #getoutside #wildernessculture #visualsofearth #nationalparks #nps #pnwdiscovered #getoutside #theoutbound #wanderwashington #choosemountains #exploremore #thegreatoutdoors #stayandwander #findyourpark #livewashington #cascadia #pacificnorthwest

Don't let the smile fool you. This was not my finest moment. It was hot, I was exasperated and at one point I sat on the trail with my pack on because I just couldn't go any further. But I knew the campground was ahead. So I just put one foot in front of the other until we got there. The start to 2019 has been a bit brutal for us. We have been under a lot of stress and change. It's easy to get swept up when you feel like stuff is being flung at you in many different directions. Sometimes what lies ahead of us seems insurmountable, but it's about stepping back for a second, realizing that you have everything you need to survive inside you (and your backpack), and getting to where you are meant to be, by just putting one foot in front of the other. #backpacking #glaciernationalpark #hiking #browninthebackcountry #browngirlshike #vegan #plantpowered #veganhiker #optoutside #montana #melanin #diversityoutdoors #diversitymatters #wildmt #keepitwild #findyourpark 📷: @mcclurbryan

One more because I’m kind of obsessed with these Joshua trees! Did you know that the national park is named after these twisted, bristled trees? The name was given by a group of Mormon settlers crossing the Mojave Desert in the mid-19th century. The tree's unique shape reminded them of a Biblical story in which Joshua reaches his hands up to the sky in prayer #nowyouknow 🌈😂. At Lee's Ferry, below the Vermilion Cliffs, is the @usgs demarcation between the upper and lower Colorado River basins. River flow measured here helped determine allocation amounts for the Colorado River Compact signed between the western states, Mexico, and Native American tribes that use water from the river. Historically the ferry was the only crossing point along the river for hundreds of miles in either direction. Early LDS/Mormon pioneers that lived south in Arizona would travel north along the Honeymoon Trail to the LDS temple in St George, Utah, to be married for time and eternity. The ferry operated at the only accessible crossing between canyon walls, just below the Paria River output. Just downstream is the beginning of the Grand Canyon, while upstream is Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Powell. . . . #GCearthsci #geology #geography #earthscience #hike #grandcanyon #findyourpark #desert #coloradoriver #optoutside #waterrights #hiking #roadtrip #adventure #igsouthwest #arizona #beautahful #utah #utahgram #weRutah #redrocks #travelgram #wilderness #history #hikingadventures #getoutside #outdoors #lakepowell #hikevibes #allaboutadventures
