Right lads it’s #tatteredtuesday which means it’s time to celebrate those old books in your personal collection!
This is the second book in Stephen R Donaldson’s “The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever,” “The Illearth War.” It was first published in 1977 by Holt, Rinehart and Winston, and later in 1989 by Del Rey.
This book is quite interesting, i think. Donaldson’s world is full of beauty and innocence and cooperation between man and the natural world. It also features one of the most selfish and reluctant hero character’s that I have ever encountered. Thomas Covenant is definitely not a likeable man, but he is so well constructed as a character that I keep coming back to this series for more.
This copy was originally my dad’s from when he was a young man, and now he’s passed it along to me, and I’m so grateful. It’s age is definitely apparent in its tatters but it adds to the character and is something that deserves showcasing rather than being left alone on a shelf.
