It has always seemed to me like only the player character (and very few other undead) can increase their power using souls. In Demon's Souls at least, it is implied that Maiden in Black allowed the Slayer of Demons to draw demon power, while other powerful heroes like Biorr would train like normal people and build up their might over years upon years of gaining experience, rather than stripping a couple of folks of their souls which is probably illegal to begin with. If that weren't true, there would be nothing to stop the PCs of each game from starting at around level 20 at least, given how long they have lived up to that point, seeing how they gain like 70 levels over the course of the games. This is implied more strongly in Demon's and Bloodborne; in the latter, only those with blood contract can access the Hunter's Dream and level up. In DS1, it only becomes possible to level up once you reach Lordran.
Now that I've written up this long and lackluster theory, I can get to the point: 8 or 9 seems to be the average person's INT, most people can't level up so they have no chance of increasing their IQ, and only those born with particular affinity and the IQ of a Rick and Morty fan can become sorcerers what about attunement? Wouldn't that make another theory
