#happy4thofjuly everyone! I hope you’re all enjoying your holiday. For many reasons this year, the 4th takes on even more importance than ever before. In spite of the insanity we are in right now and events that are horrifying to many of us, I have actually never been more #proudtobeamerican. I love this country. I adore this land with all my heart, and these are just a few reasons why: .
In the darkest of moments there are people all over our map that stand up, now more than ever, and say “no”. No this isn’t okay! We are not silent. We will #resist .
I am proud to be an American Bc as a woman I can be intelligent, powerful, sensual and fully alive and as of yet I have not been locked in jail or forced to marry anyone I don’t love. .
I am proud to be American Bc I am a mystic. I believe in the formless beyond all form, the truth beyond words, the knowing beyond all scripture and all religious forms—the place in which all religions and paths begin and end. And I am allowed to say this out loud and connect with spirituality in the way I want to. .
I am proud to be an American because I got to grow up in #miami and drink #coladas every day and hear #Buenavista socialclub club wafting through the air and be hugged and kissed upon greeting instead of receiving a handshake. .
I am proud to be American because my country is a country in which hardly any of us—except our Native American peoples—originated from here. We are a land formed almost exclusively of “illegals” and immigrants and families seeking asylum or a better life. Not even a single one of us who have had families here for centuries has any other narrative behind our name. We were welcomed in. .
I am proud to be American Bc I can acknowledge and respect you may have very different views and different reasons for being a patriot and you have the right to speak up about that to this post....
And that as an American I have the right to privacy and safety, and I can remove your post, block and report you if it’s filled of hate. You can shit on your own wall. But not on mine. And getting to say that makes me love this country even more. .
Happy Fourth everyone! What makes you proud to be American?
