We are setting sail in Henley-on-Thames this evening for a gin cruise, we couldn’t resist taking advantage of the beautiful scenery and taking a picture of one of our guest gins for the evening.
Cuckoo Sunshine Gin is the creation of Brindle Distillery in Lancashire. Named in honour of the Brindle Cuckoo and the Lancashire saying “Hello Sunshine” the story behind the gin and distillery dates back to the middle ages. It was a common belief that Spring would begin upon hearing the first call of the Cuckoo, bringing with it farming good fortune and prosperity. According to the legend, the villagers of Brindle heard the distinctive cuckoo call one spring morning and hatched a plan to keep it within Brindle forever. A wall was built around the field where the Cuckoo supposedly lived, but unfortunately the wall was two stones too low and the Cuckoo escaped. Thanks to this legend anyone who is born and raised in Brindle is known as a Brindle Cuckoo, and it’s from this that Brindle Distillery and Cuckoo Gin was born.
So what makes the Sunshine edition different from the original?
Cuckoo Sunshine Gin is made with natural honey produced on their farm by Lancashire Honeybees.
As well as a divine rich and sweet creamy honey flavour there is also a vibrant burst of berry fruit in the form of raspberries that have been infused. This gin is still traditional at the heart with botanicals such as orange, cinnamon, juniper of course and vanilla all featuring.
The result is a smooth and fresh gin, delightful layers of flavour dance around the palate and the first sip really is a wow moment!
This is a must try gin that is bright, beautiful and full of flavour and charm.
Cheers to Friday
