Back in January, I’ve shared my 2019 intention of quitting alcohol. Well, I did, almost totally: the only time I find myself unable to forego a bit of champagne is when celebrating - a birthday, a special occasion of, like yesterday, my daughter’s first paid working day! I think it’s a matter of superstition …
But even in those occasions (about 3 or 4 since January), I don’t do more than a couple of sips.
This resolution has had an amazing impact on how my body feels and also my mind. Here are the main benefits I can identify:
Quitting alcoholic beverages is one of the best ways to radically reduce the amount of sugar you eat daily so, less pressure on the scale.
No more difficult hangover mornings, stumbling out of bed, hitting body parts on the door because you can barely open your eyes.
Good bye red blotchy face and puffy eyes. Who needs them??
The mood is way better… Did you ever realize that alcohol induces depression? Just like any excess sugar - or even worse - alcohol allows you a quick high, followed by a huge crash. Oh boy, this crash was tough, believe me. .
But then, what should you drink? Well, I would say the optimum is to drink WATER at all times!
It doesn’t have to be boring:
Be creative, add natural flavors, just like this one, with cucumber. 🍋
Flavor a mix of lemon or lime juice with sparkling water as you would do to a gin & tonic.
Or revive the 70’s mood with a seasoned tomato juice - a bit of salt, pepper and tabasco or cayenne.
If you do this most of the times, you will be able to enjoy an occasional glass of wine, always with your meal, or as I do, the occasional sip of champagne to celebrate life’s best!
