I was invited for dinner last week at the newly opened @ember_restaurant_shoreditch , an intimate and cozy restaurant on Brick Lane in Shoreditch. Headed up by Chef Craig Mcalpine, this is my favourite type of restaurant; a small plate sharing restaurant where I can stuff my face with as many different dishes as my body allows (FYI – that is a lot!). We quickly glanced at the menu and realised we would never be able to decide between their extensive choice of dishes so we put our faith in Craig and let him choose his favourites for us.
As they appear:
Grilled flat iron steak with smoked garlic, heritage tomatoes, grape must mustard
Crispy cod cheek, pea and lemon verbena
Roasted hake, romesco sauce, blackened gem lettuce
Roasted harissa-spiced cauliflower, yoghurt and tahini dressing
Chargrilled tenderstem, smoked chilli, parsley
Manchego croquettes, harissa mayonnaise
Hot-chocolate fondant, salt caramel, vanilla ice cream
Overall we really enjoyed everything we ate but particularly the cod cheeks, cauliflower and broccoli. It is places like this that do vegetarian dishes so well that make me think maybe, just maybe I could be a vegetarian (those thoughts quickly disappeared when I had steak pie for lunch the next day LOL but were good while they lasted). A perfect spot for a quiet date night or catching up with girlfriends over good food and wine and on the right end of Brick Lane.
Thank you for having us
