One of the things you don't think about when you travel is where you are going to stay. You decide on a city, find a decently priced or luxury hotel, maybe even setup a car rental. What you don't tend to think about is that a hotel may not let you stay there. I had a really tough time finding a hotel that would allow foreigners to stay there. The hotels have to call the local police and alert them to expats staying there. They also have to apply for a special, expensive, and limited license to allow foreigners to spend the night. They also collect your passport when checking in, which totally made me nervous as someone who can't speak mandarin. But all of the places we ended up staying at were absolutely beautiful because if it. This was my favorite hotel to stay at because of the view. I could have woke up here every day and been happy. Have you ever traveled anywhere and been surprised by another countrys laws? #simplyadventure #lifeofadventure #roamtheplanet #discoverearth #wherewillwegonext #makemoments #exploremore #stayandwander #goexplore #destinationearth #exploringtheworld #welltravelled #staywild #wildkids #607rez #china #bouzhou #hotel #expat #foreigner

Turtles and tortoises have long been used in traditional medicine. The fat is either mixed with plants to form a cataplasm or rubbed as an ointment. While raw shells are used for convulsion, headache, vertigo and ear problem as deafness, vinegar-treated shells are indicated for leg weakness, night sweats, heart palpitations and disorders due to liver and kidney problems. There is a lack of scientific evidence demonstrating a causative link between turtle consumption and medicinal benefits, many people in China believe they provide benefits such as maintaining beauty in women and sexual function in men. To be fair, walking around this place made me start to believe maybe there's more to this stuff than I'd give credit to. I also would have never thought of eating deer antlers or a moldy flower. Medicine is a funny thing and has come a really far way Late edit- because I had a phone while I was here with a VPN, I was able to access and Google medicine benefits of these things and argue with shop keepers about pricing, etc. People began to believe that I was a doctor because I would question medical treatments for things like "he has a cold so they told me to eat snake"... "why? Just have chicken soup and water and rest" how do you know this stuff? And they would be scheduled for very expensive doctors appointments. Meanwhile there were kungfu masters who would ask to hold your hand and tell you that you need to drink more x,y,z and eat this because you have these issues. This was a wild trip for breaking down some of the walls of what I thought was possible and not #simplyadventure #lifeofadventure #roamtheplanet #discoverearth #wherewillwegonext #makemoments #exploremore #stayandwander #goexplore #destinationearth #exploringtheworld #welltravelled #staywild #wildkids #607rez #medicine #evolution #growth #china #bouzhou

A ton of my posts are going to be about my trip to China. I was there for nearly 2 months. (1.5months) and it was a super life changing experience. I was lucky enough to be able to go there for a bunch of weddings, breaking competitions, museums, wineries and all sorts of other things. I believe we were driving to Shanghai and stopped in the Henan Province and visited the Shaolin Temple and watched the Grand Ceremony Performance. There was over 500 monks who performed during a typhoon. I've read about my nikon's camera being rain resistant so I figured I'd put it to the test and take some shots. I was amazed at the symmetry between so many people. I was most impressed by the people playing instruments. The rain coming down was no joke. Aside from the amazing performance it was kind of awe-inspiring to be able to sit in the same seats as several presidents and world leaders who visited to watch as well. This lady is playing a guqin which is a plucked seven-string instrument of the zither family. It has been played since ancient times, and has traditionally been favoured by scholars and literati as an instrument of great subtlety and refinement. It is sometimes referred to by the Chinese as "the father of Chinese music" or "the instrument of the sages". #simplyadventure #lifeofadventure #roamtheplanet #discoverearth #wherewillwegonext #makemoments #exploremore #stayandwander #goexplore #destinationearth #exploringtheworld #welltravelled #staywild #wildkids #607rez #china #bouzhou #shaolin #shaolintemple #guqin #dengfeng #portrait

What is the reason you have fun with your family? What is the reason you have fun with your friends? These are similar reasons to why weddings are so fun. Often when you go to a wedding, 90%-100% of people there, WANT to be there, and are happy to celebrate the couple’s big day. In China not only do you hang out with your bridal party and family but you court your significant others families. In this photo we went out with the brides family (only the men) and drank, ate, and spent time getting to know one another. In this instance you stand and raise a glass to someone on the other side of the family as a sign of respect. It tells them that you want to drink with them and show them you care. This was one of my favorite wedding customs. With the exception of the liquor, it was like devil springs. I generally just stuck to the beer which was a lot like Heineken. Personally, I'm fairly introverted. So at first it was tough to jump in to these types of events because you stand and make an announcement that you want to drink with "tom" and just you two stand and drink, say thank you, then sit back down. I feel at this point we had been partaking in what felt like wedding customs for like 3 weeks. What is one of your favorite wedding customs? Does your family have them? #china #bouzhou #getoutthere #simplyadventure #lifeofadventure #roamtheplanet #discoverearth #wherewillwegonext #makemoments #exploremore #stayandwander #goexplore #destinationearth #exploringtheworld #welltravelled #staywild #wildkids #607rez #wedding #engagement #love #engaged #engagementring

Around this time last year I flew out to China to see one of my best friends get married. I got to eat some amazing food with some even more amazing people. Then after what may have been 4 or 5 days of fairly nonstop celebration I got to judge a 2v2 18+ and a 3v3 18- event. I did a small 20 minute workshop because too many people showed up and we lost space for people to move. I got to throw down with the best bboys I have ever encountered in my life. When I first started breaking it was because I wanted to smoke people. Then it became about wanting to travel. Then having fun and eating new food. Now it's simply about the experience and being able to teach people the same thing that has lead me to travel across the world. I tell people all the time, you never know what a little passion will do for your life and this is one of those exact moments I talk about. I never would have dreamed a bboy from binghamton, NY would be flying around the world to judge or compete or do workshops. Everyone is capable, you just need to believe in yourself and your craft #china #bouzhou #getoutthere #7sessions #simplyadventure #lifeofadventure #roamtheplanet #discoverearth #wherewillwegonext #makemoments #exploremore #stayandwander #goexplore #destinationearth #exploringtheworld #60secclub #welltravelled #staywild #wildkids #607rez #bboy

I generally make a point to not upload any phone pictures. However, I have no way to upload my pictures otherwise until I return to the USA. Chillen in Bouhzou, China in the North Anui Province. There is a small bboy dance studio here (name to be filled in later). I was blessed with being able to judge a 3v3 kids battle and a 2v2 adult battle. Unfortunately, we had just finished a Chinese wedding. For those that dont know... these things are 3 days of nonstop partying and traditions. Way cooler than an American wedding, however- that also means no sleep. In the previous 3 days we had all of 6 hours of sleep. So after 4 hours of judging we were all nodding off mid event. It was a challenge but these bboy are top notch. Amazing competitors. It was an honor to watch them and an even bigger honor they didn't want to kill us for falling asleep cause at home we would stab a judge haha. These guys are a class act as judges and it was nice to see other judges get excited for when watching conpetitions.
