I believe this trip has been an ongoing confirmation that God works through people because each encounter served a purpose -- it had a meaning. This morning, landing in London from Barcelona, we decided to grab a quick bite at a cozy café/restaurant overlooking incoming and outgoing flights, called WonderTree. There we met our waiter, George - a tall young man with green eyes and short blonde hair, and a smile that radiated joy. George took down our order and within ten minutes, I was enjoying mint tea and Moroccan style breakfast. George grabbed my attention solely by his interactions with people. He approached everyone with a smile and warmth in his voice, fueled by pure joy and patience as he marked down complex orders of "add more of this" and "can you remove that?" "but what does it mean" and "yes, but hmmm wait, no" on a mobile device. Infuriating encounters, but not to George. He patiently waited, helped and made suggestions, and when leaving the table, not a single eye roll. When we asked for the check, I couldn't help but ask George the secret to his happiness. He laughed and with an adorable English accent he said "you know, I keep things into perspective. People have it so much worse than me, so I remind myself to be grateful for what I have and right now, and everything is ok" he paused "I've adopted this way of thinking and it helps keep the wrinkles away!!" We laughed and I told him how much I admire that before signing the receipt and wishing George a beautiful life. I have a feeling he will be more than fine.
