I tell my clients all the time to take pictures along their journey for this exact reason. “I don’t like my picture though” .... Sagittarian hips, butt and thighs. Sexy, but the hips can be prone to imbalances. It's an area of the body which stores a lot of emotion. It's also one of the most active parts of the body, maintaining stability for the spinal column. My hips pop quite a bit in certain stretches and poses. It's something I need to be really mindful of. Orthopedic inserts, movement and awareness of what my feet/ hips are doing when I'm walking can help alleviate potential imbalances. I was in a yoga class the other day and the teacher recommended Pilates over yoga for alignment issues. It's easy in a dynamic yoga class to be rushing through poses in an unstable way. Something like a slow paced alignment based class is a safe option. Why are hip replacements on the rise? It has a lot to do with bad habits and people continuing high impact exercise as they age. Balance out those yang activities with yin restorative practices and manage your hip sway when you walk. Shoutout to all the body workers who make it their mission to help us come into alignment. There are four pairs of muscles are responsible for subtle movements between the skull and first and second vertebrae in the neck, they are . . 1⃣Rectus Capitis Posterior Minor (Mi) 2⃣Rectus Capitis Posterior Major (Ma) 3⃣Obliquus Capitis Superior (Ocs) 4⃣Obliquus Capitis Inferior (Oci) . . These muscles are also a common area to develop trigger points that cause headaches 🤕. . . There are many different types of headaches. One of the more common headaches is the suboccipital headache . . When the suboccipital muscles go into spasms they can entrap the nerves that travel through the suboccipital region . . By compressing the suboccipital nerves they set off a series of events that lead to either a tension or a migraine like headaches . . 📓Did you know that the suboccipitals are intimately connected to our 👁👁 muscles. Improper eye movement can influence the tension of  the suboccipitals. And since 9 people out of 10 have a convergence insufficiency, you can now understand why headaches are so common. . . 📣If you get regular headaches start doing the eye exercises that I posted in another @posturepro, these will address the cause of the pain. . . 🎾You can also try to temporarily release the tension of these muscles by applying pressure on your neck with a tennis ball/lacrosse  ball or acuball . . 👉 place the ball at the base of your skull, gently allow your head to relax then start to do chin tucks for 5-10 seconds at a time every minute. 🎵Earth dances in the rain - though the recording sounds like fire crackling, which I love. It also makes sense for me, as fire sits opposite water in the elements mandala I work with. And I often feel I’m sat just on the line where they come to meet. Today I went out searching for earth though. I grew up on drum and bass, dub and the early dubstep scene and sinking into my spine, hips and energetic roots has always felt like home to me - yet I struggle with explicitly embracing the Earth element in my practice. I’m far more comfortable in expressive fire or water. Good for sciatica. Leg, knee & ankle strengthener. Brings some relief to lower back pain. Helpful if you have constipation or time of the month discomfort. Good for infertility. Relieves tension in the side body. Opens the chest. Stretches your groin, back, spine, waist, ankles, lungs (intercostals) & shoulders. Activates the Root Chakra (Muladhara), Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana), & Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura) which can help you feel connected, powerful, & stable while helping one to balance their emotions. 🌜 TIPS: If you have neck issues or pain, do not turn your head upward. Instead, keep your gaze straight ahead with both sides of neck even. Front knee should be stacked over the ankle. Make sure the outer edge (pinky toe side) is grounding down in the back foot. Chest should rotate upwards and top hip rotating outwards. To deepen the pose, elbow that is on the knee can come down with hand on the floor behind the leg- just make sure your shoulder is stacked over the wrist and again if no neck issues turn your gaze up towards the sky.
