Although it's been just over a decade since the end of Sri Lanka's brutal civil war, the country has bounced back to become one of our favorite travel destinations (and made our top 40 #mostbeautifulcountries list), complete with rambling temple ruins, leafy tea plantations, and wide, golden beaches. Animal lovers should take particular note, as the country has tons of options for wildlife viewing. Both Udawalawe National Park and Gal Oya National Park contain hundreds of elephants, while Yala National Park is home to the world's highest concentration of leopards (swipe right for a surprise!!) 🐆 📷: 1-2 by @from.miles.away, 3 by @nilush26

Introducing a new advice column where we tackle the most commonly asked questions from our @womenwhotravel community, starting with a question on solo travel! "...there are few travel experiences more exciting than taking a first solo trip, let alone a first solo *international* trip. And deciding to take the leap is often the hardest part, so that’s one thing you can cross off your list. Plus, you’re far from alone here. You’re part of a growing wave of travelers, particularly women, who are eager to get out there and explore without waiting for someone to do it with them. Seriously: search #solotravel on Instagram and you’ll find nearly 5 million tagged images." Read the rest of the column at the link in bio. Where was your first solo travel experience? Kyoto was voted one of the best cities in the world by our readers, and it's easy to see why. Formerly Japan's capital for over 1,000 years, the city of 1.5 million is packed with fragments of the past, from a still-operating geisha district to some 1,600 ancient temples. The nature here is also unparalleled, regardless of the season: canopies of cherry blossoms in spring, verdant gardens and bamboo groves in summer, backdrops of kaleidoscopic trees in autumn, and silent dustings of snow in winter. See for yourself why this city is a must-visit at the link in bio! 📷: @callicles
